Cannabidiol (CBD) has taken the wellness world by storm in recent years, thanks to its many potential health benefits. But while this impressive compound can now be found in a wide range of products, the humble CBD oil remains among the most popular - and with good reason. But with so many options (and price points) available, it can be difficult to know where to start when choosing the right CBD oil for you. This begs the question: Is it worth buying the cheapest CBD oil?
In most cases, the simple answer to this question is: No. While it might be tempting to save yourself a few pennies and opt for the cheapest product you can find, it is highly unlikely you will be getting good value for money.
As we have mentioned, the CBD industry has been booming in recent years. With millions of CBD consumers in the UK alone, a large number of companies and brands have diversified into CBD wellness. But with such a popular market, less well-meaning parties will inevitably try to make a quick profit on the back of consumers.
So, what do you need to know when comparing cost and quality? In this article, we’ll guide you through everything you need to know when selecting a high-quality CBD oil, from regulations and certificates of analysis to manufacturing methods.
A number of factors contribute to the overall quality of CBD oils. While it can be tempting to determine this simply by the price of the product, this isn’t always as helpful as you might think. Thankfully, some tell-tale signs can indicate the quality of a product.
When purchasing a CBD oil (or any other CBD product for that matter), you should be able to access a certificate of analysis (COA). This is a type of laboratory report that confirms the contents of each batch of CBD oil. When purchasing online, trusted retailers will advertise their lab reports to allow curious customers to assess the contents of their prospective CBD oil.
COAs are delivered by third-party laboratories that conduct testing on products to verify their contents. These certificates will indicate the exact cannabinoid concentrations within the oil - this should confirm what is advertised by the retailer.

The Food Standards Agency states that CBD products need to have received Novel Foods authorisation in order to be sold in the UK. This ensures the safety of CBD products, which are classified as food supplement products.
CBD brands in the UK were required to submit a Novel Foods application by the 31st of March 2021. Applications require the company to provide evidence of the compliance, safety and quality of their CBD products. Products not associated with a Novel Foods application by this deadline were ordered to be removed from sale under UK law.
All CBD products that are linked to a Novel Foods application (including Honey Heaven products) can be found on the Food Standards Agency website.
Most CBD extracts are most commonly sourced from low-THC hemp plants. This helps to ensure CBD oils contain no more than trace amounts of THC - the psychoactive cannabis compound that causes a “high”.
CBD can be extracted from the hemp plant in a number of ways, including alcohol/solvent extraction and CO2 extraction. Supercritical CO2 extraction - as used in the manufacture of Honey Heaven’s CBD products - is considered among the best extraction methods.
As with most things, if the cost of a CBD oil seems too good to be true, then it probably is. The chances are that the product will fall short on quality, safety, and/or compliance with the law. It is therefore important to employ caution when shopping around for CBD products, and always buy from a trusted retailer who advertises their certificates of analysis.
Sub-quality and non-compliant oils may contain potentially harmful products. In some cases, they may exceed the legal limit of THC and other controlled cannabinoids or may contain less than the advertised level of CBD.
Furthermore, CBD oils that are not associated with a Novel Foods application should not be on sale in the UK. This can be a sign of a low-quality and potentially unsafe product which should be avoided at all costs.
